ECU Problem on Opel Corsa

Hi

I have an 06 Opel Corsa which I was planning on changing in January. Left it in to the garage this morning as I was having the following symptom - when I went to restart the last couple of days I had to jump start it (granted I knew battery was very low), however since the weekend I noticed what once it was started I was getting no power when stepping on the accelerator. Basically, if I leave the car running for 10-15 mins and re-start a couple of times it appears to fix itself.

However, garage is saying I would need to replace the ECU at serious cost. When I search on the web for related problems many people say that replacing the ECU does not resolve the problem or many times it is something different altogether.

Just wondering if anybody could shed any advice

Thanks!

Gilboy,
Had an issue with a Renault Clio ECU a couple of years ago which I was told would have to be replaced at a cost of roughly 1200 euro. After a bit of research, I found a crowd in the UK called AutotekElectronics (dot com) who repaired it for less than 100 euro. I posted it over and got it back a week or two later - working perfectly. They also do aftermarket replacement ECUs. Might be worth investigating if it is the ECU that needs fixing.

I remember that my brother had a similar problem with a car that he had in the past. I think that in the end there was a very fine crack on the cylinder head which would close after the engine ran for a few mins. It was not spotted until after being examined by several mechanics.

Also i had a citreon which refused to start for me last year. the car was taken to the citreon dealership who after putting in onto the computer told me that it was not being seen and the ECU would have to be replaced. I didn't. I took the car out and the mechanic simply replace a blown fuse and hey presto I'm still driving a year later.

Find a good mechanic who specialises in electrics in your area and get a second opinion before forking out a fortune. That's my advice.

Thanks for the responses amh and bmcg

Replaced the battery yesterday. Went out and started in this morning(after a night were temperature dropped to -11 in my area) and it started up perfect this morning no problem and no issue with power

Thanks
Joe
