Economical Saloon

Hello,

I am currently looking into changing my petrol 1.4 Focus LX 2007 for something more economical. I drive 300km + per week (90% driving at 90km on country roads) I would like a saloon car for bad/icy roads etc

Budget 15k (including trade in 6k for 2007 Focus - 130KM mileage)
Engine size - 1.6 to 2 litre preferably
Year 2009+
Fuel - Diesel for economy

Has anyone any recommendations? Fuel efficiency would be very important

I am interested in a 2009 Diesel VW Passat 1.9litre Bluemotion - Consumption 60mpg I am told or maybe a Diesel Skoda Octavia or Superb.

Can I expect prices to come down in January as cars 1 year older?

Does anyone know of a fuel consumption website with extensive listing of cars?

Would appreciate any advice

Thanks

Have read somewhere that VRT is to be increased. I drive 2012 1.6 diesel Focus Saloon and it goes on the sniff of diesel, 980km on €68 which as far as I can make out close on 65 miles per gallon based at €1.68 per litre and in fairness most of the driving is motorway

Thanks username123. Finally a site with a proper listing of cars! Couldn't find this level of detail anywhere.

I see my petrol Focus does a pathetic 38mpg. Great car - it'll pass everything on the road except the petrol station!

Not too worried about VRT going up as will be second hand but expect motor tax to go up. I'll wait and see what happens in the budget next month before I buy but will probably go for a 1.6 litre anyway.

I would expect a 2010 car (value €18k) to come down maybe €2k once January comes but I may be wrong. My car will lose maybe €1k so should work out better.

Hopefully better selection too with people trading in to buy a new car
