im a complete noob on ebay, this guy im buying off says his paypal has problems and can i send a cheque, now in this age of digital banking i dont have a chequebook, so how do i go about this?
You could get a bank draft, or ask him for his bank details (IBAN, BIC, etc.) and do an electronic transfer. I wouldn't advise this. It sounds like a scam. What exactly is his problem with Paypal?
I'd be wary of a seller with PayPal problems. This could mean that a previous purchaser made a claim to PayPal against the seller and won, and PayPal are waiting for money to hit the account to refund the buyer.

Get rid. Tell him you are adviced by Ebay to pay by Paypal only and will not purchase the item he is selling by any other method.
Perhaps he never had a paypal account afterall just to get people to bid and now he is reversing his policy. If it says on his advert he accepts paypal then you do not have to pay through an alternative way as he is suggesting.
You will not however be marked with negative feedback as a result of his messing around.
Im sure the item you bid is two a penny so just find another and proceed as usual. Think with caution and not with your impatient wallet.
Speaking from experience Paypal is the only way to go.
e-bay do not cover money transfers at all under their protection scheme and it is open to debate if they cover postal orders so Paypal is the only secure way.
i had same problem with a seller on e-bay. wasn't willing to pay by another method so e-mailed them and said that was getting problem with paypal message and that cannot pay by another method. Got reply saying would be back following day and to try again then. Was ok then.
Just say that you cannot commit to purchasing item any longer as you committed to buying on the understanding that you could pay via paypal and as this is no longer possible sale cannot proceed.
