Ebay - Damaged goods supplied, now I have to pay postage to return?

Hi,

I recently made a purchase of two pictures from eBay. The pictures arrived and they were obviously "seconds" - the angles at the corners were not "square" - the pictures looked like they'd been squashed. They were listed as second-hand in good condition.

I raised a paypal complaint, and their (PayPal's) finding was that the pictures were not as described. They awarded me a refund of all that I had paid - cost and seller's postage costs. However I am to return the goods to the UK at my own cost.

I'm at a loss as to why I should have to pay anything when the seller knowingly sent me duds. And I have to pay probably €5 or €6 postage to get a refund of £22!

Any thoughts as to how to proceed? I queried the finding with PayPal and they have more or less threatened me that if I don't return the goods (at my own expense) immediately they will change their finding in favour of the seller. Also they have given me 3 days from today to respond (originally I had 10 days from last Sunday, so it seems that they are shortening my response time allowed as a punishment for daring to query their finding!!).

I'd appreciate any ideas!

Annoying as it is I don't see that you have much choice. Bought something described as new recently and it was clearly second hand, was just glad it wasn't an expensive purchase. Probably could have got money back but would have had to return item etc... I'd say just be glad you got some of your money back. Get a receipt for postage.

That's the problem with EBay/PayPal, the terms are loaded in their favour for a speedy resolution.

You're lucky you're getting anything back. I made a claim a few years back after receiving counterfeit goods, they found in my favour, but wouldn't give me any of my money back as the seller had no money in their PayPal account.
