Each year xmas pressies get more difficult to get?

Is it just me or does anyone else find it gets more difficult each year to get people christmas gifts. It's very hard to get personal stuff rather than the general 'gift sets' that can be given to anyone. CD's, DVD's, books, perfum...these things get churned out every year. Unless you want to spend serious money on something unusual. But when you have 10/12 people to buy for, that is a bit difficult.
What do people spend on average per person? Just wondering!!
