I have 5 fully grown evergreen fir trees, minatures- between 3-10 feet high, have had them for about 11 years. One has died earlier this year and I can see the others are all browning from the centre . Is this likely a disease, their age? I have never fed them or put anything on them.
Can anyone tell me how I can stop the progression of whats killing them. If its a disease does this mean the soil is infected and I can't plant new ones?
Thanks.

I doubt if anyone can hep you without knowing first what's effecting the trees and/or examining the ground where they grow. Contact a tree-surgeon / horticulturalist from your local Golden Pages.

If the woirst comes to the worst and they need to be cut down, you might consider replacing them with native hard-wood trees.

Might be a disease alright. Sounds like it. Get a horticulturist, as opposed to a tree surgeon to look at them. I agree with above-if you want to plant more in their place, plant natives-better for the environment, but also might be better resistant to the disease, if it is indeed a disease.
