i need to get a new dvd player.I have HDD LCD TV and have a Sky + which is not HDD. Is there any real point in buying a blue ray DVD player ,they are about 200Euro .There are HDD dvd players with a upscaler for about 100 euro. I got a price for HDMI cables and they are very dear is there anywhere on line to buy them cheaper.

Bluray has won the format battle with HD-DVD, but may lose the war.

More & more content is being downloaded or streamed over the internet, e.g. Sky's recently announced sky player with Xbox. http://sky.com/SkyPlayer
You'll get a decent sony/philips DVD player for €40/50. A bit more if you want hdmi or upscaling. I would go with that & then see where the technology is in 1-2 years time.
