Hi

I am looking to buy a DVD player (recorded not required).
Can anyone tell me what the differences are between models. There seems to be a big difference in price.
Is price a general indicator of quality of playback and or extra features.
Also what should I look out for in a DVD player?
I presume all current players will play both + and - DVDs.

Thanks,

Hi there,
I have 2 DVD players at home. One is a panasonic DVD player/recorder and it
cost in excess of 200 euro about 2 years ago. It will play all original DVD's but
will not play any .avi or .mpg or anything that seems to be compressed in any
way. I don't use the recorder much.

The other DVD player I have is a plustron (not the most famous brand) it cost
me 35 euro in Dunnes about 1 year ago. It has so far played everything I've
put in it. There is no difference in quality between the 2 players as I don't have a
sophisticated sound system or anything like that.

My advice would be to buy the cheapest DVD player you can find and keep the
receipt.

You won't go wrong with the Philips DVP5160 linked to by GeneralZod, it's a steal at €43. I have its cousin the DVP5140 (which is the same but without the USB) and I can't fault it.
