DVD player with USB

Sorry my internet crashed.Ok i bought a DVD player with usb port to mainly play films from my harddrive/USB stick. It plays DVDs fine but when i plugged in my hardrive it says 'no playable device'. I wonder to i have to change the film's formats?
I tried my USB stick and it brought up jpegs only.
The DVD player is Biostek XS-260.

Spec:

RegionZone 2StandardNTSC / PALDivX/MPEG4 compatibleMPEG4Compatible MediaDVD / MPEG4 / WMA / VCD / CD / CD-R / CD-RW / DVD+ / -R / DVD +/-
RW / KODAK PICTURE CD

Please any help would be great, thanks

How is the hard drive partitioned and formatted? It's quite possible that it must be FAT[32] only and maybe even with no partition larger than 32GB or 128GB (?).

What is on the USB stick other than JPEGs?

Hi, i just tried DIVx files i had and they worked using my USB ,as its only 1gb though my other films are too big to try on it.
Ya the hardrive is FAT32 format.
Maybe its the partition thing, i don't underatand it? my harddrive is 500gb in size. too big you think? thanks

You should be easily able to download a relatively small (e.g. 1GB or less) digital movie (e.g. MPEG) file to test. Sounds like the only compatible media files on the USB stick were JPEGs so there is no problem there?

When you connect the hard drive to a PC/laptop how does it appear? As one new drive letter? Or more than one? As I mentioned above you may need more than one partition no bigger than 32GB or 128GB (can't remember the general rules of thumb offhand). Also - some DVD players with USB connectivity may be limited in terms of the size of USB hard drive that they can cope with. So it's also possible that your drive is simply too big no matter how it's partitioned!

Update: a quick Google suggests that your player MAY not be able to deal with an external hard drive over 64GB in size. This info is far from authoritative but may be a useful lead...

Ya i just saw a product review of the DVD player and someone said that it can't deal with an external hard drive of over 64GB. When i bought it they never specified that..oh well. Guess there's nothin i can probabalu do about that.
Thanks for all your help.

What format is it? If it has a single partition of 500GB then I would imagine that it's NTFS and not FAT[32] in which case it almost certainly is not going to work anyway. Most DVD players with USB can only deal with FAT[32] formatted drives. Some may only deal with one or more partitions of a particular maximum size (e.g. 32GB). Some may also only deal with drives under a particular total size.

You could just pick up a couple of extra USB sticks? 4GB/8GB capacity can be had for [broken link removed] nowadays...

According to a pixmania review of the DVD player: "if you have a portable/external hard drive that is bigger than 64gb then it will just tell you that there is no playable media on your hard drive"

As suggested above, reformat the drive into a series of 64gb partitions, at least one of which should be visible to the DVD player.

I thought that 32GB or 128GB were the common maximum partition size? I don't recall 64GB being one too.

Ultimately a Google for USB external hard drive formatting issues relating to DVD players should yield some relevant info.

Can anyone tell me if the Biostek XS-260 comes with a scart cable?
Thanks.

How is this related to the original query!?!

suggests that it doesn't come with a SCART lead. Many such devices do not.
