DVD player ... help!

I have an LG dvd recorder, it's about 4 years old and has been kept in great condition. My problem with it is it only plays some dvd's.
I have it unlocked to play all regions. I rented 3 movies last wknd and it would only play one of them, it ejected the other 2 saying 'check disc'
I can't see anyhting different between the disc's and as to why it iwll play one and not the others??
I don't know whether just to chuck it out or is it worth getting fixed.
Any help much appreciated cheers!
 
sounds faulty to me just chuck it you can get a new one for under€100 accouding to a previous post .Try to get a "ZONE FREE" player thet will ensure all dvd can play
 
Try cleaning the discs. The first time I rented a DVD, it wouldn't play. When I looked at it, I noticed it was covered in dirt and fingerprints - people obviously aren't as careful with rental discs as they are with those they've bought! Anyways, I cleaned it with a soft cloth (the sort designed to clean glasses) and it worked just fine.
