I recently installed XP Home on my old home PC, a 1.3gh celron, and it's great. However, I cant play DVD's. I have tried a couple of players, Media Player & Interactual, and they both tell me that I do not have a DVD decoder. This is on the same machine that WinME let me play DVDs on Interactual. Do I need a separate piece of software to make this happen, and if so what is it & importantly, is it free or is there a free version. Enough money has gone into this old PC recently......

Yes - you probably need to download a suitable codec for the media player software that you use. See .

Just downloaded vlc media player last night as I had a mkv file to play. Anybody like to comment on this player?

In my experience VLC is an excellent bit of software and plays almost anything you throw at it.

Wish my ordinary DVD player was as flexible
