I am in an apartment in a block of four. The four apartments were built in 1992.
The water pressure has never been satisfactory. We had the situation examined by a plumber and he said that the pipe from the street was too narrow. So, we have had a pipe laid from the main valve at the apartments, across the car park, to the City Council manhole on the footpath outside.
We then had an inspector from the City Council come out and examine the work. He deemed it satisfactory and said that we should contact the relevant department about having the new pipe connected. He indicated that there should be no charge for this connection. It should take about 2 hours.
Today we received a note from the relevant official saying that there will be a connection charge of €3368.00!
Given that even barristers don't charge this much for two hours work, I'm wondering if we have any recourse?
Any idea what we might do or who we might consider turning to?
Since there are only 4 apartments, we four residents form the management company. There is no outside involvement.
Many thanks.
