Traffic updates: AA Roadwatch

More than 100 flights to and from the airport have been cancelled as result of heavy snowfalls this afternoon.

Dublin Airport Authority is advising passengers to contact their airlines regarding travel plans for this afternoon and this evening.

All Aer Lingus flights due to depart today have been cancelled, with the exception of EI 184 to Heathrow and EI 109 to New York.

Passengers booked to travel on affected Aer Lingus flights are advised not to come to the airport.

Aer Arann says it has had to cancel six flights and divert two others.
Flights from Galway and Waterford to Luton, a flight from Dublin to Cardiff and one from Cork to Cardiff have all been cancelled. Domestic flights from Dublin to Galway and Donegal were also affected.

The airline says passengers on cancelled flights to or from the UK are being re-booked on to later flights. Those with domestic bookings are being offered surface transport.

Adverse weather conditions also affected flights from George Best Belfast City Airport this morning.
Belfast International Airport was operational but some flights were cancelled or delayed.
Passengers are advised to contact their carriers at both airports.

Drivers warned

Hazardous driving conditions are reported across Leinster and Met Éireann says more snow and icy conditions are expected.
There have been heavy snowfalls in the east and north, with further accumulations expected this afternoon, especially on high ground.
Gardaí have advised motorists to drive with extreme care, and conditions are expected to worsen as temperatures drop over the next few hours.
AA Roadwatch says there is widespread disruption of traffic in many parts of the country.
Motorists are advised to drive with extra caution on back roads, which are particularly dangerous.
And a number of Dublin Bus routes have been disrupted due to the weather conditions in the capital.
The company says that eight routes have been curtailed because of dangerous driving conditions.
Inspectors are monitoring road conditions ahead of rush hour and a spokesperson says every effort will be made to get customers home. However, Dublin Bus is warning passengers that delays are likely.
Intending passengers are advised to check the company's website www.dublinbus.ie for a complete list of affected routes.

I have just heard a vox pop on RTE radio. Reporter going about trying to find people chewing the carpet (okay, floor tiles) in frustration, and finding only stoic acceptance.

Seems like they're gonna have a lot of people turning up at the airport not knowing whats ahead of them

I'm totally confused now - OH due back from Paris. Air France site says flight diverted to Shannon, Dublin airport says 6.35pm in Dublin? Am using an onnline flight tracker and that say 6.05 in Dublin?

Update - Shannon airport website says landed in Shannon. Who knows if he'll get home tonight!

Fingers crossed shesells

The airport was opened there just before 8pm, so hopefully it won't be too mad for travellers

4 hours later, he's just landed in Dublin. Now whether his bag is here or not is another story!

What's wrong with the DAA? The airport is not well run at the best of times, but a small sprinkle of snow and it shuts for a couple of days. Will anybody be sacked?
