I've seen that some developer's in Dubai give their address as a PO Box No.

Is this standard practice in Dubai or is it something that should cause concern?

Thanks!

Yeah their smart enough not to invest their own money in the country, just rent an address !

I've contacted the UAE embassy in London. They told me that more or less all Dubai busiensses use PO Box addresses. They gave me the http://www.hawkpages.com website directory link so that I could see all the Dubai companies with PO Boxes in their addresses, for myself.

HOSTBIDDER If you like Dubai try skyscrappercity, the UAE forum some very knowledgeable guys there. They are a bit anti on this forum. Ive flipped twice in the last 3years and made some very good profits. One is now rented long term and returning 20% on capital employed, and another has about 3years to go to completion but I will hold. There will no doubt be a slowdown maybe even a correction but this place is buzzing you have to go to see it. OK then give me stick.

The reason why they use P.O.Boxes instead of street addresses is because post is not delivered to street addresses.

There are two sides to the Dubai argument.

Those like plotman who have made a very good profit
And those who chose not to invest in Dubai and are now regretting it.

But it is by no means too late.
The speculators and investors that I have spoken to have no plans of leaving Dubai for at least another 7 years.

There are no personal addresses in UAE, only PO Boxes. Everyone has their own PO Box or they use the PO Box of the company they work for. The downside is that it is relatively easy to get a PO Box, all that is required is present a copies of your passport and resident visa with 150 Dirhams to your local post-office and you will get a PO Box on the spot.
Congratulations to Plotman who is making 20% on his investment, he is very lucky. Perhaps when he next does his calculations he can take into account that he probably paid 75% of his money to the builder 2 years before he took possession of his property, the high maintenance charges on buildings in Dubai and that inflation is running at more then 25%.I agree with him that Dubai is buzzing as will all those people who spend up to 2 hours each day to travel 5 miles to work and the same back each evening. I do not know what all these poople do because there is no new industry in the area.I understand most of them are consultants or work in the building industry. What will happen when the building ends.My best wishes to all Dubai property investors and hope it does not end like the Dubai Stock Market did just over a year ago. This was another "cannot loose" investment area but it did crash spectacularly and is very unlikely to recover.
