hi all,
We have a 1950s house built with solid block walls. One of the bedrooms has 3 outside walls and is freezing cold. We would like to remede this.

Reading the key posts here, and other DIY webistes, the answer seems to be to dry-line the walls. The attic is already insulated.

I have a few specific questions
1) There seems to be quite a few different insulating plasterboards available,
some with a vapour barrier and some without. Can anyone advise ont eh most suitable product.

2) It seems that the way to attach plasterboard in these circumstances is to attach wooden battens to the wall, and the plasterboard is attached to the battens. How much depth does the batten and plasterboard add in total ?

All advice gratefully received,
Thanks,

Gnerally, I would think a build up like:

50mm batten at 450 centre, infilled with 50mm insulation in bewteen
Vapour barrier
12.5mm plasterboard
3mmm plaster / tape and joint and decorate to finish

www.knauf.co.uk has a waelth of information on its website

We got outside walls in two bedrooms done last Spring. Very cosy. The same plasterer is returning the week after next to insulate a back bedroom, kitchen/diner. As I remember, he drilled insulation boards onto the walls and then skimmed them. It realy pays as we are using less heating oil.
