dry cleaning damage

Hi, hoping someone can give me some advice. I left a pair of curtains in to be dry cleaned, and they did warn me that damage to the lining could occur and got me to sign a waiver. A few hours later I got a phonecall to advise that the lining had indeed completely warped. I've to go and see the manager on Monday and her perspective seems to be that I should go back to Next where I bought them and that she would give me a letter for them basically blaming the design of Next's curtains, and that they would hand over a refund. Just wondering where I stand on this? Will the dry cleaners still expect me to pay for their service and claim it back from Next, and how do I know that the damage is down to the curtains and not the dry cleaners? Has anyone any experience of trying to get a refund from a retailer for this, are they usually helpful?

Hoping someone can help

Thanks

If there's a label saying that the curtains can be drycleaned and then afetr getting them drycleaned they get damaged, then the product was not suitable.

Depends on what the lining was made of. If it was made of a material that wasn't suitable for dry cleaning, and the dry cleaner warned you of this, can you really blame the retailer?

Thanks for the replies. The label says professional dry clean only. I have another pair of the exact same curtains currently hanging in my room which could also do with a clean, should I also bring them back with the damaged ones? Do I still have a claim against the store when i have no receipt and I bought them about 3 years ago? It does say Next clearly on the label... I get the feeling its going to depend greatly on the mood and goodwill of the manager, I'm probably not the best at fighting my corner in these situations!! I'm just worried that the dry cleaner is blaming the curtains, and Next will probably blame the dry cleaner!!

You might be surprised. Some stores with a central supplier will issue a refund with little or no questions. There's always the small claims court if they don't.

thanks for the help. Just to update, wasn't charged for the dry cleaning and they gave me a letter stating that the damage was caused by the lining being mis-labelled and not suitable for dry cleaning. Brought the curtains (both the damaged and non-damaged ones) and letter to Next and got £40 credit for the 2 pairs. Not a huge amount considering the price of their new curtains, but was happy enough considering I'd no receipt and the stock number wasn't even on file any more which meant that the curtains were more than 3 years old.
