Driving through Norway

We have settled on Norway for our summer holidays (in the campervan with kids 4 & 6) and are trying to work out the best point of arrival. I was hoping someone out there might have some suggestions.

Basically the options are Kristiansand (southern tip, but with a direct road North) or Stavanger/Haugesund/Bergen (west coast, but with reasonably poor roads on account of all the fjords).

We would be mostly interested in visiting the fjords, mountains, countryside - the wilds bascially rather than Oslo or the other cities. Another nice-to-do would be to see something approximating the midnight sun so we will probably head North initially.

Anyone have any suggestions for where to visit ? I have had a look at some of the campsites and they seem to be reasonably well spread out throughout the whole of Southern Norway, so site availability shouldn't be a problem.

Any info welcome.

Cheers,
