Have the test next week down the country, is it as bad a people say. I,m not driving that long and need the full licence for work

The test is ok as long as you know the rules of the road, and can drive properly.

If you have any doubt about your readiness defer it, and take a few lessons.

Good luck.

Get a local instructor to bring you on the regular test routes if you are unfamilar with them and get some lessons too - I found knowing the test routes very helpful when I took the test abeit about 15 years ago.

Doing the test routes with an instructor is a very useful tool. When I did mine I made a mistake with a deceiving Y-junction (the turn off went straight so I plowed straight on, whereas the road I was on curved right) with the instructor which I was able to correct for the test which I passed.

That's exactly it, there are some dodgy junctions in most towns including Wexford where i did mine. Had I not been brought on the test route beforehand it would have cost me on the day due to uncertainty at one or two junctions - definitely worth spending the money on the pre-test runs. I'm not a driving instrutor by the way :)
