Driving test on Monday...

Anybody done the driving test since the new features where introduced to it in February? i.e. checking the engine for oil, checking the tyres etc - What exactly do they ask you to do? I heard that the tester will just ask you to open the bonnet and point out where stuff is (i.e the oil dip stick etc). Is this the extent of it?

Any other driving test tips would also be helpful?

I did the test in May. You need to know where the oil, radiator fluid, coolant and window washer water is. Tester just asks you to open the bonnet and point at the correct location. The tester will also check that all lights in the car are operating and ask you to explain a few of the internal controls in the car. I was asked nearly everything on the dash.

"i was asked nearly everything on the dash"

did the instructor not ask you to take your time?

I did it the other day and was asked 3 questions, windscreen fluid brake fluid and power steering fluid.

I think certain cars, you can't check the power steering fluid by looking at it (ie. its not transparent like the coolant) I stumbled when he asked how I'd check the PS fluid so in the end i just said I'm sorry I don't know.
Didn't even get a grade 1 fault for not knowing (although it wasn't transparent - toyota yaris)
Passed anyway - 6th time lucky!

Good luck Mourinho. Congratluations Sinead. I did mine in January, so I luckily got in before the new checks.

Thanks Joe1234 but fortunatley for me I passed mine about 7 years ago -its the better half thats doing it on Monday and its worried about the engine checks etc more than anything else!

From what I remember from doing it observation was a key issue for the tester - i made sure i was moving my head and exaggerating the movement for him to see.

What happens if the tester isn't familiar with under the bonnet of your particular car and they think you've got it wrong?

Doesn't affect me as I passed my test years ago, I'm just curious.
