Hi All,

Just wondering if someone can help me with this query. My Mum is 70 in December and her driving licence expires the day before as is standard procedure.

My question basically .... Is it possible to apply now for a new licence or does she have to wait until she actually reaches 70? If that is the case she will probably be without a licence for a few days which is not ideal given the Christmas period.

Hope someone can clarify this for me..

Thanks a mil

The relevant website states:-

Medical Report (Form D.501)
Your application must be accompanied by a medical report if:-

..................- you will be 70 years of age or more on the first day of the period for which the licence is being granted.................................
The medical report must be completed by a registered medical practitioner and you must sign the declaration in his/her presence. The form can be downloaded here

Presumably if your mother begins this process well in advance her new licence will be available on the day her current one expires, without any interruption?
