driving instructor qualifications

Does anyone know how to go about becoming a driving instructor?

Currently you don't need any qualifications other than to have a full driving licence yourself!

A friend of mine decided he wanted to do this because the hours suited him (its mostly evenings and Saturday work). Just a few months after getting his own driving licence, he phoned up all the local driving schools and got a job as an instructor with just some on the job training from other instructors in the school. In fairness he has recently decided to undergo the instructor examinations (presumably with DIR) though that's after several years of instruction without any qualification.

This is quite an interesting issue (i.e., how to start yourself up as a driving instructor).

A quick search on the Oireachtas website has yielded references to the Driver Testing and Standards Authority legislation, which sets down the statutory basis for the regulation of driving instructors. I am not certain however if this legislation is currently in effect yet (I don't believe so), but I will check this and post back again.

You can learn with ISM, but you can just start teaching straight away as long as u are insured and have a car with dual Pedals, you do not have to get lessons yourself but I would advise maybe u do , or buy CD from ISM
