Does anyone know whether one needs an international driving licence to hire a car in the states and if so how would one go about gettting such a thing?

If you have a full Irish licence you can hire a car in America.

You don't need one in the USA .. but if you did ever need to get an International Drivers Licence they can be obtained from the AA - there's information on their website - [broken link removed]

No. Your Irish license is fine. But if you've been licensed for less than a year, you might have a problem at some care hire agencies.

i have driven in USA several times .all you need is a full , clean, irish license
