Driving From Boston to New York

My husband and I plan to fly to Boston early July and drive from from Boston to New York, stopping off to see family in Connecticut on route to NY. If anyone has done this trip or has any suggestions for nice beaches or other scenic spots along the way I would really appreciate it. :)
 
What kind of prices are you getting for a one-way car rental? I might be doing a similar trip (business, not pleasure unfortunately) later in the year.
 
If you are going to conneticut anyway you could travel to New London and get a ferry from there to Orient point in Long Island and come into NY that way.

You can stop off in the Hamptons (New Yorkers party place during the summer) and go to one of many fantastic beach's all along dune road some nice places to see down along dunne road in Southampton, Hampton Bays, East Hampton.

MTV Film some of their shows from Clubs in Hampton bays during the summer Neptunes and Summers spring to mind.
 
There was some interesting advice on a very similar question in the Saturday supplement of the Irish Independent. It gave some good detail about driving in New England, Massacheusetts etc
 
I'm getting quotes of about €200 for a one-way rental from Boston to NY, Saturday to Monday with Avis. Any better prices than this?
