Drain Issue - looking for advice?

Hi all,

Hoping someone can help with this. The drain at the back of our patio has standing water in it all of the time, please see the attached photo. It doesn’t fill up any higher when you pore water down it. Is this normal?

It is a new build house and just concerned there might be a drainage issue as we had another issue that they said was due to food/oil going down the kitchen drain. We allow very little food to go down the drain but I wasn’t there the day they came to question them. The kitchen drain is at the other end of the patio.

The “drain” on your patio is connected to your outflow waste pipe. Likely, the drain is to help rainwater etc flow from the patio.

It’s unclear from the photo, but I think you need to get a grate installed (costs around €3.00) on the gully to prevent your waste pipe being blocked by stones and other debris.

Looks perfectly normal.a trap will hold water too prevent gases passing back upwards.
Just be sure there is nothing sitting in the bottom of the trap (put your hand down or get a wet vac ) too be sure nothing is sitting on the bottom of trap.

(If it’s taking forever too empty you could have a fall issue) if the pipe below the ground doesn’t have a fall the water will sit in the pipe and become stagnant.
