down to 2 days a week

Hi, I have been told that i will be down to 2 days a week. i am a service technician and i will also be losing my van and phone. i have been told that there maybe additional days available but not guaranteed. I live with my girlfriend who is on 32000 per annum, and my 2 days will provide me with approx 850 per month. Would i be able to get additional payment support?
The other thing i am looking into is going self employed and offering my services to other companies. The trouble is i wouldnt know where to start, and if there was any help out there for setting it up.
Please if anyone can give me any advice that it would be very much appreciated.
