Double Taxation ?

Hopefully somebody should be able to help me out here.

I am an IT contractor, however I have not set up my own Company. Basically I have gone under an umbrella agency and they send out my invoice to my hiring Company. The Hiring Company send payment to the Umbrella Agency who in turn pay me. Complicated I know.

What really annoys me about this is the fact I have been paying both Employers and Employees PRSI and it is putting a big dint in my Pocket. I am now looking at the option of setting up my own company, but my main question is this : Can I claim back any PRSI in this instance , should I be paying Employers PRSI ?

If you are a director and significant shareholder in your own company, there is no obligation for the company to pay employer prsi for you.

This will not apply in the case of an umbrella company where you are merely an employee.

There are no mechanisms for back-claiming PRSI for employees who later become company directors.

Sorry for the delay and many thanks for your response

Can I claim back employers PRSI..as I have not formed my own company/ am not a company director. I am on the books of a Umbrealla agency for taxation purposes only
