Door measurements misunderstanding.

Hi guys,

due to a "misunderstanding" with our joiner wrt the height of the finished floor he cut all internal doors such that they are hung now with a gap of approximately 2 inches off the floor. Putting the saddles in only makes it look worse.

Obviously, this really doesn't look the part, so I was wondering if anyone would know of a remedy to this situation?

Thanks,

ALERT.

Alert,

We had the same problem with one of our interior doors. Our door was oak and I got our builder to cut a strip of oak and stick it to the bottom of the door. It actually looks fine as if it was part of the design.

Don't know whether this would work with your doors.

Oops! Are these doors solid wood (pine or hardwood), engineered (laminated from solid strips), solid or hollow core? If the doors are solid or engineered pine, solid or hollow core and will be painted you could fix a planed strip onto the bottom of the doors, glued and screwed as required. This isn't perfect though as the glue line will be visible and shrinkage will always accentuate any join. In a commercial situation you could fix kickplates on the door faces which would camoflage the error but obviously this option isn't a runner in a domestic build.

Thanks for the swift replies guys!

All the doors are just "standard" interior doors, not solid core. Would this mean that it would not be possible to affix this strip to them?

ALERT.

It will be possible, the outer edges (stiles, top and bottom rails) are of solid timber (thin section but solid nonetheless) and a slip can easily be glued and screwed on.
