The most prevalent one being that he has no money after bringing the best mate for a bevy.....someone else suggested that he was gay..... Any other ideas?

The voiceover goes something like: Penguins mate for life.... the implication being they stay together no matter how outrageous his behaviour (ie forgetting wallet).
