Hi all,

Has anyone traveled to the Dominican Republic with Budget Travel. We are looking at going at the end of Jan next year. Its all inclusive and i'm wondering does this actually save much in the end and what does it include. I know you can read their site, but i'd like to hear from anyone who has done this.

We are looking at Grand Oasis Marien. Its getting good reviews on Trip advisor but i'd like to hear from those who have gone there with Budget Travel.

I was in Dom Rep 2 yrs ago and would highly recommend it as a holiday destination. We went with a UK company (can't remember who offhand) from Belfast and was impressed with hotel etc.
As far as Budget Travel goes, personally wouldn't use them again. Went to Corfu with them 4 or 5 yrs ago and place was rotten! Apartment was filthy, pool was tiny, etc etc and have heard a load of other comments and opinions like this.
Where do Budget fly to? From their website looks like St Johns?

Dublin to St. John's 5hrs. 30mins
St. John's to Puerto Plata 5hrs. 30 mins
  • Airport to Playa Dorada 20mins
  • Airport to Sosua, 20 mins
Confused with this? If St Johns is 5 1/2 hrs to Puerto Plata it can't be 20 mins from Sosua unless it involves 2 flights? Sosua is 20 mins from Puerto Plata airpot.

just on all inclusive q in op, from my experience we saved good bit. all we spent on the holiday was few drinks after hours and then on trips to ocean world for a dolphin swim, to a casino and trip to paradise island, worked out at about €400 each in the 2 weeks! not bad.

they are only starting to DO in Nov. Yes there are 2 flights, a 1 hr re fuel in Newfoundland and then on to DO.

I've read reviews on the hotel on Trip Advisor and it has good reviews.

we did it a couple of years ago, saved a small fortune, we just wanted a peaceful getaway, all we really spent was the odd few "off the list" drinks, cocktails etc, and cigarettes, think we spent around €500 in 2 weeks, food was top notch. Try book a 4* hotel or better, as we were told at the time that anything lower and the food would be the same every day.we were in a really nice place and even then we noticed the food becoming repetitive towards the end of 2 weeks. Couple of dollars left out for the cleaning staff and they really look after you.

Just back from D.R. We were booked at the Grand Oasis but upon arrival were told that they were overbooked. We ended up at the Iberostar Costa Dorada which is right next door. The beach area is better at the Grand Oasis, but everything else is much nicer at the Iberostar. Both are good value as everything was included-all food, all drinks. Grand Oasis is very quiet, no nightlife. Iberostar was very lively at night, and the staff was fun. Enjoy if you go!
