Interested in purchashing a property for holiday rental in DR and have been reviewing the market for he past few months on the northern coast in sosua and caberete. I am going out to look at some completed units in caberete with ReMax. any one got anything they may want to share on the area, potential pitfalls to avoid?

Seems like a long way to go for an investment.

Is it purely investment or do you plan to spend time there yourself?

If the former then i would advise against it.

Its purely for investment.I dont intend to spend time there myself. Out of interest why would you advise against it? Think distanse and flights etc too much hassle?

if you dont mind me asking, why DR? Have you been there before?

Hey Icecool,

To be honest I don't know anything about the dominican republic - so I can't say there's anything wrong with it.

I just think that normally you'll find profitable areas nearer to home than that.

For example - take last year you probably had people buying in all sorts of places around the world where probably the best returns of all were 2 hours up the road in Northern Ireland with little or none of the risk.

You could easily be paying way above the odds for it for example - It surely must be difficult to pin down the market value price per square foot from this distance.

That said if you have done your research and you are happy it stacks up then all the best with youfr investment.

I know what you mean in terms of disctance and pinpointing market value etc. this has never been an issue for me. I dont intend to buy blind, although i have done in the past!!
