My friend was offered a new role within their company that had been advertised internally. They hadn't applied, but it was offered by HR, a ballpark salary increase was discussed, and on that basis accepted in principle, pending ironing out the details. The HR person and my friend shook hands on the acceptance of the role, congratulations were offered etc. The offer was subsequently withdrawn on a pretext of my friend being needed elsewhere in the organisation, and the role has been advertised externally. No contract was signed; does my friend have any recall whatever to fill the role and at a salary increase, based on the agreement with HR?
