i've fallen really far behind in college havent been back since xmas break, i have so many peronal issues i won't get into them, what would the social welfare do if i told them i want to leave the back to education, i'm terrified but i really need to sort my life out first, i've no problem in gradually paying back the 500e from the start of the year, please has anyone any info??

Your Back to Education Allowance will stop if you leave school/college, so you will go back onto the payment you were on beforehand (e.g. jobseeker's) if you're eligible.

If you are asked to pay back the 500 euro (and you may not be), they can make an arrangement as you've suggested.

All you have to do is call into the local SW office where you were claiming and explain the situation.

Is there a college counsellor/advisor who you can talk to, to see if you can get back on track instead of leaving?

There is no provision in their guidelines for asking for the 500 Euro back, unless it was a matter of fraud, which it clearly wasn't as you were on the course until xmas. Don't worry about that!
