Does anybody know of a cash&carry open to the public so I can buy wholesale foods?

I would like to buy wholesale priced pasta, rice, canned food, etc and would like to know if anyone does this in Ireland. It would be a way of saving money since a lot of this food stays good for several years after purchasing.
I got the idea after watching 'Doomsday Preppers' and I would like to have a small cache of food in case prices go up.
I know there are cash and carrys in Dublin, but I have not used them before. Does anyone think they are cheaper than the big retail spermarkets?
If anyone has any sugggestions about getting good quality, keenly priced food I would appreciate it.
Thanks

I would try find some of the polish/eastern european warehouse type cash and carrys that are around, their range of pasta is fantastic and very cheap. A lot of things there are very reasonably priced I find, some sort of translator on your phone is handy though as otherwise you will be looking at the pictures or going with guesswork!

That's a good idea. I live in the SouthWest area of Dublin, but have no problems driving far to get a good deal. If you know of any cash and carrys in particular that you find good then feel free to let me know. - thanks

I am several hours drive from you so afraid don't know of any in your locality, I would say if you ask in any of the smaller foreign owned shops they will know or if you have any friends or work colleagues from these areas they will know. It was a work colleague told me about it originally, based in a big industrial estate, like a warehouse but trollies and checkouts like normal supermarket. Ask around.

Do you not need a VAT number to be eligible to buy from a wholesale Cash and Carry?

Not from the ones I am talking about! They are just like supermarkets but with prices of cash and carry.

Asian markets are also great value, particularly for things like beans, lentils, rice and Asian spices and condiments. Some are also excellent value for vegetables. The one on Drury Street has a tiny entrance but is actually huge inside.

Theres a supermarket type place facing Tallaght Garda Station, in the building of the Plaza hotel. I have only been in once but I remember (amongst other things) they had enormous sacks of rice (20 or 30 kilo I think) cheap. It is in a foreign language but I cannot for the life of me remember if it was eastern european or asian.

I just went into the place into the Plaza Hotel, it's called Cost Less. It's run by Asians. I only had time to price Basmati Rice and that was €35 for a 20kg bag. I will have a look at a couple of cash and carrys in Clondalkin and Long Mile Road to see which one is the cheapest. Thanks
