Does an EU company have to pay VAT to an Irish company?

Hi,

Probably a bit of a stupid question, but I've recieved different answers from the companies involved. Here it goes :)

I'm moving to Germany in the next month or so and have recieved three quotes from Irish removal companies. I want them to bill the German company I am moving to directly so they won't have to pay the VAT, keeping me under the budget they have set me. One of the removal companies said that's no problem, just send them the VAT number of the German company, while another said that the German company would have to pay VAT.

Which is correct, and where could I find the appropriate documentation? Thanks!

If you are able to provide a VAT no. and the other company are paying you are not required to pay VAT, but you can if you want and then claim it back. The first option is the easer, hope that helps.

If they will begin the removal from your office here the service is being provided within Ireland therefore its not considered 'export' and VAT exempt.
