Do u need to have skirting in place to carpet?

Hi, that would be usual to have finished off skirting but, it's not written in stone and I'm sure you can put in skirting over the carpet?

you could put in your skirtings after having your carpet installed. however the carpet is generally the last thing to do before moving in as any trade going back in on top of the carpet can damage or stain the carpet. i have never seen skirtings put in after carpetting not sure how it would look. if the floor wasnt level then you would see it on the skirting and would not be able to hide it as you can by installing carpet after fitting skirting

Sounds strange alright. When you go to replace the carpet you will probably need to remove the skirtings which can damage the plaster. Not worth the bother.

How could the skirtings be decorated if installed after carpet? Skirtings first, then carpet.

YE skirting first other wise when you want to change the carpet the gripper will be stuck under the skirting and prove a nightmare to remove the carpet.

Have you considered dispensing entirely with skirting boards? I know that they are traditional in Ireland - but they serve no useful purpose - except to cover up bad workmanship. I prefer to dispense with boards, sort out the bad plastering at the foot of the wall, seal it with caulk, and it is a much neater job.
