Do Top ups funds generally go through the solicitor

After a very slow process finally my small Top up is coming through. Problem is that the funds are being paid into my solictors account who is on 2 weeks holidays.
I can understand why mortgages are paid through solictors as the funds generally go straight to another vendors solicitor. Don't understand why a Top up cannot simply be paid into my account as it just means I have to get the money from my solicitor rather then them simply transferring it into my account?
Anyone shed any light on this.

It also depends on the purpose of the top up. If, for example, it is a condition of your offer that specific debts/an existing mortgage etc must be cleared from the proceeds of the top up, the solicitor will ensure this happens and the balance of the cheque will be made payable to you.
