Do the suction bathroom accessories work?

Hi, just wondering about this as they have a great range in Dunnes etc but I just can't see the durability with them. I can understand with the likes of a soap holder, but I can't see it holding a towel rail in place with loads of towels. Also, after a short while I just envisage them, desucking off the wall due to condensation and general usage?

I bought some for a shower tidy unit from B&Q, worked a treat. However, they did come off a few times since, think shampoo, shower gel and razors all over the place.. but apart from that it was great compared to the hassle of drilling holes in my nice tiles!

Nope - they don't work. You can get those towel racks that fit over the top of the door in argos. Those work great and you don't have to get out the drill/hammer.

Right, thanks, don't get them so, not worth it, basically just a gimmick. In this case then, I would rather just get a nice chrome set and just drill them in, durability is the key in my book.

The suctions ones worked fine for me, I've had them for about 5 years now in different rental places. Very handy but I have never put very heavy things on them, only hand towels, soap, toilet paper etc. I wouldn't use them in a place I owned though - the secured ones look much better.

they are not reliable and can cause damage when they do fall off. have fitted 1000,s and always put a screw in the middle

Pain in the face. They have a knack of jumping off the wall just at the most inconvenient time!

Be cautious with the over the door type too - if there isn't enough space between the architrave and the top of the door you won't be able to close the door with the hanger in place.
The suction ones certainly don't fix onto small tiles - grout gets in the way of suction.

NO, they don't and cause near heart attacks when they hit the tiles in the middle of the night!!!

haha

Thats happened to me a few times alright. However if you have light stuff on them they shouldnt fall off! (You would think anyway)

They don't work at all if you have mosaic tiles.
They are ok on other tiles, but they do fall down regularly (every few months)
Ours have never damaged anything.
The over door ones don't always fit standard doors, the fittings are not wide enough (I did not get them in Argos though, Argos ones could be fine)
The over door ones bang when you close the door at night, every night, very annoying.

I have Croydex 'Twist n Lock' suction type fittings. The fitting in the main bathroom is a toy tidy net bag with two very secure suction fixings. The second fitting is a hand towel half circle type and it is rock solid (at present) on the side on the cistern in the downstairs loo. So far so good, in place 5 weeks and has not budged. They were a bit fiddley to fit, in so far as it took a few trys to get stuck fast. As I said IMHO did what they claimed to do. One of the twins thinks he is spiderman on occasion and is prone to pulling down fittings. These fittings are damage limitation... So far he has not touched the fittings. Oh the joys of parenthood.

Do not buy these stupid things. Pure waste of money. Nearly had a heart attack in middle of the night when one of them decided to hop down off the wall. I thought someone was coming to kill me.

Stupid things.

I thought someone was coming to kill me.

Well it wasn't me.

I don't know where you live anyway.

But if I did know where you lived I'd stick your stakes things onto the tiles with a hot glue.

Just so your sleep won't be interupted again.
