Do mortgage companies check your UK credit history?

Do mortgage companies in Ireland check your credit history if you were living in the U? I ask as I am planning to move home fro England and my credit rating took a bit of a pasting as I was out of work for a while, missed paymnets on credit cards, loans etc but never missed a mortgage payment.

The simple answer is they can if they wish to but rarely do especially if you can show your mortgage statements are clear.
 
If you show a UK address as your current/previous address lenders can and will do a credit check on that address. Also the question about your credit history will come up on the application form. If you can show that you handled your debts as well as you could and that the situation is unlikely to arise again (secure employment in Ireland) you may be OK - it'll be assessed on case by case basis.
