Hi, My partner and I are currently looking at hotels for our wedding. Each hotel has it's own menu pricing, reception drinks pricing etc. Is it usual to get a discount on these prices?. If so, what sort of discount might we expect? Any suggestions on good hotels in the Carlow / Wexford / Waterford areas........ Looking at Faithlegg House and Dunbrody House at the monemt. Thanks Seren.

I have found it very difficult to get discounts for a Friday or Saturday wedding in the summer. As a previous poster said, if you are prepared to go mid week or off season you may have a better chance. Demand is too high at other times for them to have to give discounts on wedding services.

Like the other posters said, going mid-week (Monday -Thurs, except for public holidays) is the best chance you'll have of getting discounts. Hotels are generally not in the business of giving discounts for wedding packages - and it's probably best to get used to this when dealing with other wedding suppliers as well. Sad but true.

As everyone else has said as far as I'm aware you'll only get a discount during the week, weekend is full price (and apparently Thursday is now a weekend day in lots of places). Anyway rather than discount you will find big price variations around the place, we found everywhere in Waterford city and surroundings quiet expensive and have opted the Brandon House Hotel in New Ross, which we find pleasent to deal with and works out at about 35 a head (No affiliation)..

Here are links to some of the hotels in Carlow town and surrounding areas if you want to try them - good luck!

I had my reception in Ballykealy Manor and the manager was very flexible on the menu, drinks, etc etc. You set your limit per person and he'll do a menu to accomodate that. Forget about the set menus. We then bargained for free extra nights stay in bridal suite which was no problem with them.
