Am new relatively new to investing in shares. Just got a dividend cheque. Just wondering about dividend withholding tax from Irish Company. Can I reclaim this in my tax return if I have not used up all my allowances? Secondly do I have to declare the net dividend payment in my tax return - could it be taxed again? Thanks.

If your income is low, and so you don't pay tax, then yes, you may reclaim the 20% DWT in your annual tax return.

If your combined income leaves you at the 20% marginal rate, then the DWT withholding tax satisfies your liability.

If your income is high enough to put you into the 41% band, then like me, you must pay the balance income tax through your tax return.
