Disposing of old toys, school books etc.

Hi everyone,
Just before I dispose of these via recycling where possible otherwise landfill.
Can anyone please advise me on other possiblities- the books (primary school and secondary school) are quite dated now, I don't think they will be of much use. Do second hand shops take old school books/toys/jigsaws?
I live in the west of ireland so ideally if I need to travel would want something in this area.
