Disposal of old gas bottle ?

Is there a system for disposing of very old gas bottle/cylinders ?

The type that would fit into the 'super-ser' gas heater, if you know what I mean.

It's very old, very corroded/rusty and is still at least three quarters full of gas.

I'm reluctant to try and transport it....

Contact your local authority and see what they can do.Failing that ring the cylinder company - calor,flogas etc and ask for customer service, explain your problem and they should be able to do something about it
