Dismal Scientists

Thanks to the emergence of and the pursuit of popularity by our new-age gurus, the celebrity economists, most ordinary mortals (myself included) now understand the concepts and jargon of the financial world. But is anyone else a bit tired of these dismal scientists being trotted out willy nilly for comment at every minor development? Most of them put across their employer's agenda and so can't be said to be independent. I suppose, in fairness, they do seem blessed with remarkable hindsight if severely lacking in practical suggestions for a future direction?
