Disabling delivery receipts on whatsapp

When on holiday i want people to not know when i connect to wifi and that their whatsapp message is delivered.
How can i do this on an as required basis rather than disabling the receipts permanently?
I want to look at email and internet but want to check whatsapp when i choose.
Family for example are the ones i dont want to know i have connected as there is an expectation that i reply.
Sending the delivery receipt when i actually open the app is what i want.
Can the app be just disabled until i elect to open it?
I am using Android phone

Settings < Apps < Whatsapp < Force Stop should work. You'll need to redo it each time you wish to go incommunicado as it were.

Settings < Apps < Whatsapp < Data Usage and turn off WiFi.
