I went to my doctor but unfortunately he only had my medical files from 07, which was after my accident.
I'm due to go back on wednesday after he gets my files and looks through them.
The consultant you speak of though, would his word be enough?
I ask because I heard the welfare like to make it difficult for you.
If your GP is getting all of your medical files, including reports from hospitals if you attended at the time of your accident, he/she will prepare a report based on those medical files and that will be used to consider your eligibility for Disability Allowance.
You may also be called to see the Dept's own medical referees as part of the application process.
Thanks very much for the replies, one last question if I may.
Is there a long waiting time for a decision once the DA form is sent to the social welfare?
Yes, the waiting time is several months at the moment.
If you have no income in the meantime, you may be eligible for Supplementary Welfare Allowance (SWA), which is a means-tested payment. SWA is administered by SW staff who are usually based in HSE Health Centres.
