How much should scaffolding cost per week ? I haven't got any quotes yet but I need a ballpark figure.

I found it cheaper to buy & sell on again afterwards than it was to hire it. it is fine if you can be guaranteed that all trades will show up when you want them but our plasterer got sick & part of the outside plastering took 4 months longer , if I had paid for hire it would really have cost us.

Hi, our scaffolding cost €4,800 for erection and dismantle for 6 weeks and I think €300 per week after that but there will always be problems, we got delayed by brick layer, we have a timber frame so didn't needed it for as long. If I was doing a full brick house I would buy the scaffolding. They kept firing bills at us for fixing the scaffolding due to safety regulation checks without even telling us so we didn't even know if the scaffolding was moved and then the slater kept delaying us so, so as soon as he was finished we just told the scaffolding man to take it down because the costs were spiralling, which didn't please the soffit and fascia man!!

Half way through self build of 3100 sq ft house, hired scaffolding for €100 cash per week. collected it ourselves, paid up front for 7 weeks, all trades came as planned and we took it back ourselves. Was quoted up to €260 per week though when ringing around. The guy we hired it off had previously purchased it new for his own build. We considered that option too and some good deals to be got on buy and sell magazine.

Folks....just a note of caution. Scaffolding needs to be constructed by a certified or approved scaffolder for insurance purposes. I know this adds significantly to the cost, but for peace of mind, I think its worth it. Imagine a fiasco like happened recently in belfast & the consequences that might have for your build if something similar happened.

I would say buy 2nd hand, pay a scaffolder to erect if insurance requires, then sell on when you are finished, or rent it out to other self builders. The problem with hire is that you are at the mercy of the tradesmen, my plasterer has held me up for 4 weeks at this stage, I am glad I didnt hire the scaffolding.

Birroc,

I assume you are building a house.. I have my house built to roof level with no additional scaffolding costs

Factor this in when you are getting a direct labour quotation for the blockwork, roof, plastering etc.

Apple1 is right...scaffolding has to be erected by specialists as their is a health & safety issue. Let you contractor/builder deal with this issue.

Also ensure he has the correct insurances to cover it etc.

Also insure that you have your insurance to cover personnel working on your site etc.

we paid 1,500 euros cash for the scaffolding to be erected around house and garage. this was for supply and erecting and we will have it for about 4 months, so i guess that's about 100 euros a week. this will give us time to complete the roofs, put the windows in, do the fascias etc, plaster outside, paint the chimneys and other bits.

hi,
I had scaffolding on hire from chadwicks scaffolding and it cost around 110-120 euros aweek. I got a local man to erect and dismantle it.He has all the relevent health/safety tickets and code of practice etc. This was money well spent in my view as it is illegal to set up or alter scaffolding unless you have the appropriate papers. It gave me great peace of mind with regard to the saftey of all the tradesmen that used it.
