Direct flights to Slovakia

Good news for those Irish people who have bought property in Kosice, Banska Bystrica and the Low and High Tatras. Direct schedule flights have now started from Dublin to Kosice with Sky Europe. This adds to their route to Bratislava direct from Dublin plus Ryanair's service to Bratislava also.
Slovakia is really begin to open up with the airline carriers and more routes are planned into the country. Now, a direct flight into Poprad airport would be nice!
 
There are a lot, I can assure you. Banska Bystrica has become very popular with Irish buyers as it is Slovakia's third city and a university town plus it has excellent infrastructural links to Bratislava and Germany.
The low and high Tatras have become very popular with investors looking at ski property. The Polish ski in the Tatras as they reckon the skiing is better than Zakopane in South Poland, and also the Germans.
There has been very little development near the slopes so rental returns are excellent.
Slovakia has not been extensively marketed to Irish/UK buyers because the indigenous residential market is so strong.
 

Thats good to hear. The centre of Kosice is a very nice place, and quite cheap for food and drink. The Tatras are excellent as well (been hiking there twice in the past 2 years). Just be aware though, the place is still quite poor outside the cities, and there are ugly communist blocks in every little village. So while the centre of a town/city might be an alpine paradise, if you go around the corner your confronted by Ballymun tower blocks. The east (Kosice end) also has quite a large population of gypsies, who live in fairly bad poverty.
 
I was in Kosice 3 weeks ago to visit the centre and look at the brewery cassovar development. The centre, or old town is beautiful. It was snowing at the time which made the place look better but I can see so much potential with this place.

Yes there is a gypsy population; there were 3 of them sat near me on the plane to Bratislava!
 
Brewery Cassovar is extremely expensive. Higher price per square meter than Bratislava!!!
 
I dont see relevance your comment makes? That is like comparing something on the outskirts of London with Salford Quays in Manchester.

The Cassovar deal is ideal for a foriegn investor as it is so central; finding a development this close to a city centre and old town is pretty much unheard of. I visited Bratislava and I hated the place; its dirty, very built up and ugly. Kosice felt more welcoming and there is evidence of good FDI. They already have US Steel there which empoys 17,000 locals and companies like Molex, IBM and Pepsi.
 
It's a subjective opinion. I've been to both cities and have contacts in both. I agree Kosice is nice but I believe Bratislava is a better option for investment due to it's strategic location. In particular, I belive the Ruzinow district of Bratislava (not equivalent to the outskirts of London, it is 10 minutes walk to the old town) offers great potential and is cheaper than those prices in that development in Kosice. "Doctor's differ, patients die". I think we both agree that Slovakia as a whole is a good location for property investment.
 
Your right. Slovakia is a good location right now! I think I got all defensive as I really fell for Kosice.

I may even buy in Bratislava myself but it would have to be at the right price. I have contacts in both cities too and when in Bratislava I was told that 2007 saw a lot of growth and Kosice should follow suit in 2008. My only concern is that the average wage is €500 in Brat' and only €200 in Kosice.
