Direct Debit from UK to Ireland

My bank is telling me that you can't set up a direct debit from a UK (sterling) account to an Irish bank account because of the currency issue.

Is there any other way of setting up a automatic monthly payment from a sterling account to an Irish account?

you can set up international direct debits on transfermate.com, i got an email from them to confirm as I had asked them about this before,
