Does anyone know whether the people of Dingle have prevailed over the dictatorial Minister O Cuiv in the plebesite?

Either way its heartening to see that for An Post at least it will allways be [broken link removed].
 
The results of the last binding plebicite in Tralee as reported by http://www.kerryseye.com/

Tralee had its own plebiscite fifty years ago this month.
In October 1956 a plebiscite to change the name of Nelson Street to Ashe Street was successful. Out of 60 electors, 37 voted in favour, and 2 against.

But a proposal by Tralee UDC to change Denny St to Desmond St and The Mall to Pearse St were rejected by the electors on the streets.

1,222 elibible to vote.

1,095 valid votes.
90 voted to stay as An Daingean.
1,005 voted to change to Dingle Daingean Uí Chúis.

Pretty decisive.
But apparently it's not legally binding in any way.

Some supplementary questions:

Does anyone know what the ministerial order/legislation actually says? Is it confined to signposts and OS maps or does it extend to all references to the placename. (ie Bus Time Tables etc)

Does the order relate to towns and villages only or does it relate to physical features as well? For instance Slea Head, Mount Brandon, Dingle Harbour etc.

Finally will RTÉ, The Irish Times and Radio Kerry respect the wishes of the Dingle people as expressed in the plebescite?

Where the Minister makes an Order in respect of a Gaeltacht placename, the English version of that placename ceases to have any legal force and effect. While this is without prejudice to any private use and most public use of the English version, the Act provides that the English version may not be used in future in Acts of the Oireachtas or Statutory Instruments, or road and street signs or on Ordnance Survey Maps (with the details of which maps are covered by this provision to be set out in regulations).

No idea AJ, but how long do you think it will be before the place is called Dingle Dangle...
 
Has this issue been resolved?

I see that John Gormley has declared the matter rectified but.............

Dingle will remain expunged from signposts. Kerry Co Co have no plans to put Dingle back on the sign posts.

Daingean Uí Chúis.

191.— (1) The townland, civil parish, electoral division and non-municipal town that, immediately before the commencement of this section, was known (pursuant to the Order of 2004) as An Daingean shall, from such commencement, be known, in the Irish language, as Daingean Uí Chúis and, in the English language, as Dingle.
