That much will cover you for an entry level DSLR with a standard 18-55mm lens. You could always just buy the body and get a 17-55mm or 17-85mm wide-angle zoom separately. You may also want to look at a tilt and shift lens to correct for converging verticals which will be a feature of wide-angle architectural shots. I think software can correct for that now though. Have a look at the Canon EOS 400D or Nikon D40X. The Canon will give you a larger selection of lenses though. Check out www.dpreview.com.
